Remembering the day...
Hi All,
April 12, 2006 was really a day of coincidence. Along with my parents i went to attend a marriage of Mahabaleshwar who is one my best friends. He was my classmate in BE and also a roommate in hostel. The marriage was in Guledgudd around 120km from my hometown Gadag. After marriage we came to Guledgudd bus stand to catch a bus for Gadag and there only we got the news of demise of Kannada super star Dr. Rajkumar. We were quite shocked to hear this news and an air of gloom filled our mind and heart. You may now wonder about the "coincidence" which i wrote in my first sentence. That day after i heard the news my first reaction was "it wouldn't have happened this day". Because my friend (groom that day) Mahabaleshwar was called "Rajkumar" in friends' circle. In college days he used to emulate Dr. Rajkumar and entertain the people. He also got the news almost at the same time and his happiness of the day surely would have reduced. As soon as getting back to home, I eagerly switched on the TV to see Kannadigas in the sea of grief. All the Kannada channels carried the news of the cause, time and place of death. The newspaper next day was full of demise episode and also the achievements of one of the greatest sons Karnataka has ever produced. State government announced holiday and closure of all government offices, schools etc. as a mark of respect to the departed thespian. But the funeral procession became an unfortunate event as the fans went out of control and didn't allow the last rites to happen smoothly. Some miscreants also took the chance and spoiled the normalcy of Bangalore which was really shameful.
Today is April 12, 2007 and it has been a year since our beloved Dr. Raj passed away leaving a big void in the heart of his fans. Today's newspapers are full of Raj's achievements, memories and the events to happen as part of Raj's "Punyathithi". A north Indian colleague after reading news paper asked me if the day last year when riots happened in Bangalore is today. It pricked me though his question was unintentional because for me today is the day to remember and pay respect to our "Natasarvabhouma" as he was called. Though he has disappeared physically but he has made a permanent niche in the hearts and minds of fans as a great dramatist, cine super star, great singer and above all a big "Kanndabhimani" (the supporter of Kannada). More than that he has been captured in 200 and odd films and has been recorded in millions of songs which keep him alive forever. Also, today is the first marriage anniversary of our college's "Rajkumar", my friend Mahabaleshwar...
