The year that was...
Friends,
I wish the readers of my blogs a very Happy New Year 2007. Hope this year brings a lot of Joy and success in your lives.
This blog is coming after a gap of more than 2 months. This time I have chosen glimpses of events and experiences happened in my life last year as the topic. For me the year 2006 started in Chicago during my onsite visit to US. For the New Year vacation I had gone to meet my friend Bharath who at that time had just arrived in Chicago for doing his Masters. We celebrated the arrival of New Year in a small bar and next morning we saw several places in Chicago. After my brief stay in USA, I came back to India in mid January and by that time I had made my New Year resolution.
My New Year resolution was promoting my hobby which I was not able to in the previous years. The hobby I mentioned is none other that Writing (means writing articles, views, reviews etc) but I didn’t have a clue about how to promote it. Through some of my friends I came to know about the world of blogs. Though hesitant a bit, I opened the account in blogger.com and internal blog site of my organization and started working towards my resolution. Blog by blog, the confidence is increasing and I would like to take my hobby to next level (I keep this as secret till I implement it :-)).
In 2006, I started gaining interest in stock market and with the help of my friend Babu, I jumped into the crazy market where the luck swings like pendulum. I used the market crash happened during the month of April-May as the entry time and invested significant amount in the market. From then onwards demat account is the frequently visited site for me. Also the page in Newspaper where the stock listing is published, has gained greater attention of mine. Even my Mom also looks into the list and updates me about the value of my shares. Trading is interesting and tricky game which demands good amount of market knowledge and luck.
Coming to the job aspect, 2006 was the year of learning. I started with the basics of Java/J2EE which is the bread and butter technology in the projects my department undertakes. I studied most of my work related topics of Java/J2EE and increased my understanding of those topics. The compulsion of taking certification exam imposed by my organization also helped in my learning cause. I also started implementing few of my learning in my work which made me happy and satisfied. But learning continues...
On travel front, in February my dream of visiting Shravanabelagola to seek "darshan" of lord Bahubali during Mahamastakabhisheka (A grand Jain ritual of bathing the 58' tall statue of Lord Bahubali with sacred fluids which happens once in 12 years) came true. I went with 4 friends and it turned to be a very refreshing and enlightening tour. On August 15, along with my parents I visited the world famous Jog falls (near Shimoga in Karnataka) which was at full flow due to heavy rains. Though I had seen photos of Jog falls in full flow many a times but watching it live is a mesmerizing experience. We were stunned, surprised and at the same time extremely delighted watching the grandeur of nature. On way back we also visited famous Marikamba temple in Sirsi. Towards end of year I had been to Mangalore where my elder cousin stays with his family. They took me to several places in and around Mangalore which include "Pilikula Lake and Botanical Garden", "Bharath Mall", "karavali Utsav" and Someshwar Beach. Looking at its development, I felt Mangalore is the second most happening city in Karnataka after Bangalore. Being on the coast of Arabian Sea, it is surrounded by beautiful locales and beaches. But it has a modern look also, it hosts a many number of shopping malls which can be seen only in Bangalore among the cities of Karnataka.
But the year 2006 was not devoid of sadder part also. Towards the year end, my mama (My mother's younger brother) passed away due to ill health. It came as a shock for all of us in our family. Though he was elder to me, but he was as good as a good friend of my age. We shared a lot of funnier and lighter moments. He will be missed for the rest of my life. Also this year many of my office friends departed for better prospects, some left the organization and others got transfer to different location.
With all its positive and negative impacts, the year 2006 came to an end and entered into history books as well as memory lanes. Like every time I am looking at the New Year with new hopes, resolution and dreams. Time only will tell what is there in store for me this year. Wishing you all the best for the New Year...
Thanks and Regards,
Chetan
